I'm Abi Coop and I live in Cardiff, Wales, UK with my husband and our two daughters. I have a phD in Cosmology and then for 9 years wrote crosswords for puzzle magazines. Having been just a hobbyist photographer for a few years I am now very proud to be a photography mentor, with the opportunity to share all my knowledge and skills with you!
I love coffee, red wine and chocolate. I’m an introvert, but I also love to spend time with people – just in small doses. I get cabin fever if I have to spend a whole day stuck inside. I love to be outdoors in nature, enjoy exercising and do HIIT 3 times a week. I don’t get as many opportunities these days, but I also love to travel. I’ve toured New Zealand, India and Nepal, and have about a million other places on my bucket list for “one day”.
My photography is an extension of my love for our beautiful creation. I aim to shoot glorious landscapes, intricate details of nature, and capture precious moments of children and families out enjoying the world. I have a passion for freelensing, Lensbabys, double exposures, and all other kinds of creative techniques. I love to try out new things and experiment. I’m not tied to any particular genre, but in whatever I shoot my style shines through. My images are pretty and ethereal, with light, blur and colour used to tell my stories.
I shoot with a Canon 5D mark IV. My favourite lens for it's versatility and compactness is my Canon 50mm 1.8. A close second is my Canon 100mm macro 2.8. My other lenses are a Sigma Art 24mm 1.4, a Lensbaby Velvet 56, a Lensbaby Composer Pro with Sweet 50 and Edge 80 optics and a Helios 44-2. I also have the Lensbaby Omni Filter System, with the Color and Universal Expansion packs.
